Thankful for John Hick

I learned last Saturday via Twitter that John Hick has passed away. He was an ardent defender of all things religiously plural and had a major influence on me in the early ’90s. It was his The Metaphor of God Incarnate that got my juices flowing and provided the fodder for my thesis, “The Mystery of God Incarnate: An Analysis and Critique of John Hick’s Christology” (table of contents below; read a chapter here).

I mourn his passing and am thankful for the intellectual vigor with which he wrote. Most important, I’m thankful for the sharpening of my knowledge into the “mystery” of God Incarnate that he provoked and encouraged.
